"As Architecture relates to place and the experience of it creates time, there lies an intersection in which identity is formed, grounded in the physical environment and built up through memory. Memorial architecture resides at this intersection manipulating the physical surroundings to evoke emotional response based on memory.
Beirut faces a crisis of identity at the destruction of the port which memorial architecture can re-establish and preserve by accessing collective and individual memory and emotion to create urban space dedicated to the narrative of Beirut."

MEMORIAL FOR BEIRUT
expand for narrative.
For the future of Beirut is the city, and the city is the people. And the people emerge from the tunnel of the memorial to see the city standing behind them. A distance of miles yet with no distance at all they reach out to touch the city and their reflection with it.

"For there is no distance which people cross that they do not carry their identity with them constantly projecting it forward as their guiding momentum through life."
